The Kuutinlahti rowing boat takes you effortlessly to the Kuutinkanava or Löppönen cave.

The Kuutinlahti rowing boat can accommodate 4 people and their equipment. The boat itself can be found on the beach at the dinghy and the necessary equipment at the Kuutinlahti paddling base.

How do I get started?

Hire the equipment you want on a day that suits you. The equipment will be collected from the Kuutinlahti kayak base on a self-service basis.

Equipment and gear is locked with code locks. A numerical code will be sent to the telephone number given at the time of booking shortly before the start of the booking. The code will be used to access the equipment and gear booked.

Rental period

The rowing boat is designed for both day and overnight trips. You can book 4, 8, 12 or 24 hour periods within a day, depending on your enthusiasm or needs. Daily bookings start at 12 noon and end at 12 noon, making it ideal for overnight stays at, for example, at the Määkijä hut.

Booking times are precise. Equipment may not be used before the start of the reservation. Equipment must also be returned by the end time. Late arrivals will be charged double the periodic fee.

What I need to take with me?

The rental price includes oars, buoyancy aids, a route map and a dredging tool, which are sufficient equipment for day trips. It is also a good idea to bring weatherproof clothing, a water bottle and a packed lunch.

On return, the equipment must be cleaned. The bottom of the rowing boat must be cleaned of dirt and sand. The easiest way to do this is to rinse the equipment thoroughly on the beach. All equipment must be returned to the same place from which it was taken. Vests and other equipment must be cleaned and returned to the reserve store. Vests should be hung up to dry in the storage room.

Instructions for tenants:

  • Always wear a vest and a helmet when rafting. Always wear a helmet and a harness. Never go paddling with a broken canoe or equipment. When picking up equipment, make sure you have everything you need.

  • Paddle/row sober and preferably in a group. When paddling alone, stay within swimming distance of the beach. Don't overestimate your skills and remember the dangers and effects of cold water.

  • In a group, always remember the organiser's responsibility. Use only authorised and qualified instructors or guides. Paid events must be accompanied by a rescue qualified instructor, with a maximum of 16 paddlers and 10 vessels (canoes) per instructor.

  • Vests are selected according to size. Fit and comfort are more important than weight recommendation. All our vests for adults have a buoyancy of at least the 50 Newtons specified in the guidelines.

  • The best way to find the right length for your paddle is to try it out. Swap paddles with each other during the trip.

  • The transport of the canoes should be looked at and thought about together when you pick up the canoe. More commonly, the canoe will break when you take it off the roof rack. Be careful and reasonable. We are happy to advise you.

  • Each canoe is equipped with paddles, vest, bilge, map, waterproof equipment bag/container and helmet if paddling in running water. The canoe carries a sticker: "Always wear a paddle vest when paddling, check your floats and have a drainage device available. They will increase your safety". If the sticker has worn off, etc., this written instruction replaces it.

  • Don't rely blindly on guidebooks, always check your route yourself. You are responsible for your own safety. Feel free to ask for advice, it's in everyone's interest.
